Nashville sees hundreds of major concerts a year — Bridgestone Arena, the Ryman Auditorium, Ascend Amphitheater, the Grand Ole Opry. Each venue draws a different crowd, but the question before any of them is the same: what do you do with the 2–3 hours before doors open?
Broadway is the obvious answer, and it's a fine one. But if you want something with more substance — a real Nashville experience rather than another crowded bar — Nashville Barrel Company's downtown tasting room at 425 Church Street is the best pre-concert stop in the city.
Why NBC Works as a Pre-Concert Stop
NBC Downtown is in the center of it all. Bridgestone Arena is a 2-minute walk. The Ryman Auditorium is 3 minutes on foot. Broadway is right around the corner. You're not going out of your way — you're passing through the best whiskey tasting room in Tennessee on the way to your show.
The tasting room at 425 Church Street is the same award-winning operation as the distillery headquarters, just in the heart of downtown. Same single barrel releases, same staff who actually know the product, same walk-in policy. No reservation needed for a flight. Just show up, taste something worth tasting, and head to the show.
The Church Street Experiences — Choose Your Pre-Show
NBC offers six experiences at 425 Church Street, ranging from a quick walk-in flight to a full hour-long hands-on session. Here's how each one fits into a concert night:
If you're making a full afternoon of it — matinee show, early dinner, night concert — the Blend Your Own Whiskey ($200) and Single Barrel Pick ($150) experiences are worth building your day around. Both are 60 minutes and include a custom-labeled bottle. Book well in advance for concert weekends.

Here's how to structure your evening for a typical 7–8pm show at Bridgestone or the Ryman:
Walk in for a flight or book a Premium Tasting if you're with a group. Order something from the shop to take home. Takes about 45 minutes, leaves you feeling good about the night ahead.
The Palm Nashville on 2nd Avenue is a classic splurge for a special concert night. The Valentine on Church Street is closer and excellent for cocktails and small plates. Rolf and Daughters in Germantown is worth the short drive if you're planning ahead. On Broadway itself, most places are casual and move fast — good for groups who just need food and energy before a show.
Bridgestone Arena is a 2-minute walk from 425 Church Street — down Church, left on 5th Avenue North, and you're at the main entrance. Ryman Auditorium is about 3 minutes north on 5th Avenue. Both are flat, walkable, and well-lit. No rideshare needed.
Nashville has a thousand pre-show options. Most of them are forgettable. NBC isn't.
Concert Venue Guide: NBC to the Door
- Bridgestone Arena — 0.1 miles from NBC. A literal 2-minute walk. The biggest shows in Nashville happen here. NBC is the closest quality experience to the arena on the whole block.
- Ryman Auditorium — 0.2 miles from NBC. 3–4 minutes on foot heading north on 5th Ave. The Mother Church of Country Music. If you're seeing a show here, you're having a night worth starting properly.
- Ascend Amphitheater — 0.5 miles from NBC. 10-minute walk along the riverfront. Outdoor summer venue. Walk to NBC, taste something, walk to the show along the river.
- Grand Ole Opry — A different part of town (Opryland area). Get an Uber from NBC after your tasting — about 15 minutes depending on traffic.
- Exit/In, The Basement, Cannery Ballroom — Smaller venues in the Midtown and 12 South area, 5–10 minutes by rideshare. NBC is still an ideal starting point for the night.
Tips for Concert Night at NBC
- Walk-ins are always welcome for the Whiskey Flight and Chocolate Pairing — you never need to book ahead for those.
- Groups of 6+ should book the Premium Tasting in advance, especially on Friday and Saturday nights when concert crowds are heaviest.
- Buy a bottle for the after-party. NBC's shop carries the full lineup including single barrels and limited releases you can't find anywhere else. It's the best concert night souvenir in Nashville.
- Parking near NBC: Church Street has metered street parking and several garages within 2 blocks. Most downtown parking covers both the tasting and the concert — park once and walk everything.
- Check current hours at nashvillebarrelco.com/visit before your visit. Hours may vary on holidays.
